Bailing out

Postby Jim.Byers, » Thu Jul 15, 2010 11:33 am

I watched the Birket race on Ullswater this year appox.200/300 boats F 4/ 5. all boats over canvased so loads of capsizes.
only one Wayfarer it came back from glenridding on genoa very low in water and bailing out with a dinghy bailer. It was in view for
over an hour .
I now sail a MK11 with drain tubes and can sail dry in 100 yards.but I still carry my plastic 15 L.bucket from MK 1 days,it,s handy for
storing odds and ends
My advice to all boat owners before worlds is carry a big bucket, a Wayfarer holds a lot of water.

I always carry a bailer. Doing a 57 mile, 24 hour race like the 3 Rivers Race in Norfolk they do have another use
